Trauma & PTSD Therapy — North Austin, TX

Your Nervous System Can Learn Safety Again.

QEEG-guided neurofeedback and EMDR therapy may support individuals experiencing PTSD. Helping your brain shift from survival mode to stability.

Trauma isn’t weakness. It’s a nervous system stuck in a loop it learned to survive. At North Austin Neurofeedback, we work at the neurological level calming the overactive threat response and helping your brain integrate what it couldn’t process at the time.

What Is PTSD?

Trauma Isn’t Just a Memory. It’s Stored in the Brain.

PTSD is not a sign of weakness. It’s a neurological response to overwhelming experiences the brain couldn’t fully process at the time. Leaving it stuck in a state of threat long after the danger has passed.

Research shows trauma dysregulates key brain regions: the amygdala becomes overactive while the prefrontal cortex becomes underactive. This is the cycle of hypervigilance, avoidance, and emotional flooding that defines PTSD. Neurofeedback targets these patterns directly.

Signs of Trauma & PTSD

Because trauma affects each person differently, there is no one-size-fits-all path to healing. That’s why we take a personalized, brain-based approach.

Who Experiences PTSD?

Trauma Affects More People Than You Think.

PTSD affects millions of people across all walks of life. We see ages 6 and up — children, teenagers, working adults, and seniors. Trauma occurs when an experience overwhelms the nervous system’s ability to cope.

Our Trauma Protocol

Alpha/Theta Neurofeedback with EMDR

We combine Alpha/Theta neurofeedback which helps the brain enter a deeply relaxed state associated with memory processing with EMDR therapy to safely process traumatic memories and support long-term healing.

Alpha/Theta neurofeedback is an eyes-closed protocol that allows unresolved experiences to surface in a safe, controlled environment. Paired with EMDR’s bilateral stimulation, this integrated approach targets both the neurological and psychological dimensions of trauma.

Questions About Trauma Therapy

Honest answers to the questions we hear most often.

What is neurofeedback for PTSD?

A non-invasive brain training technique using real-time EEG feedback to help your brain self-regulate — targeting the overactive amygdala and dysregulated prefrontal cortex patterns tied to trauma.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients notice meaningful changes between sessions 10–20. A full course for trauma typically involves 20–40 sessions, varying by history and severity.

Is it safe for trauma survivors?

Yes. EEG sensors only read brain activity — they send no signals into the brain. There is no medication, no needles, and no requirement to verbally recount your trauma.

Is it covered by insurance?

Coverage varies by insurer. Some plans reimburse under mental health or biofeedback CPT codes. We provide documentation for reimbursement requests.

Do I have to stop therapy or medication?

No. Neurofeedback is frequently used alongside other treatments and does not require discontinuing medication or therapy.
